Connected house is now fully powered by the sun!
After nearly a decade of research into solar power, building a smaller version at our previous smallholding and a year of planning the new house layout and electricity usage we’ve done it. Our house is independent from the electrical grid and completely self-sufficient from a power usage point of view.
For us, the reasoning behind going solar was simple. The sun is an amazing resource that is available to everyone on the planet and technology exists to make exceptional use of it, so therefore it was a logical choice to make for us. With the electrical grid becoming increasingly unstable, right now is also the best time to make the switch.
In the coming weeks we will be posting articles about all the factors that have allowed us to get to this point. We will be covering everything from the solar panels we used, how we’re storing solar power, the ways we are going to improve our utilization of solar energy and all the small things we are doing to improve our energy consumption.
